In 1919 Eugène Christophe was the very first to wear the jersey of the leader of the general classification. Nicknamed “the old Gaul” in reference to the mustaches he wore at the start of his career, Eugène Christophe is also famous for his immense bad luck and his enormous courage. In fact he broke his fork 3 times in his racing career and never won the supreme title!
